Candle Pins and Mussels

No no no silly, you don't need big muscles to play candlepins.  Let us explain,

We had a great day today.First off the van has been repaired!  Caliper on the passenger side front brakes were seizing which caused our problems yesterday but no damage to the brakes so we replaced the caliper and we are ready to go again.

So back in the 80's Dave bowled with a gentleman named Ron Upson. Ron and his wife Gert live here in Sydney and today we spent the day with both of them.  First stop was a game of candlepins.

We loved this version of bowling, never played it before and it was quite interesting and difficult,  Look how it went,

No clearing of deadwood (pins that have fallen) in this game.  Strikes are difficult to get, we each had 1 in three games.

Our scores, pretty good for the first time, high games for good players are in the 160 - 170 range.  The owner of this centre opened especially for us thanks to our friend Ron and he would not charge us for the games.

Afterwards, we went back to Ron and Gert's home for drinks and mussels. Barb and I were not sure about this but we loved them. Look out friends and family, we might have to try these one day!

We had a very nice visit and a great day with these lovely folks.  Many thanks to them for showing us around Sydney and entertaining us for the day.

Tomorrow we are back on the road again!!

    1. Oh come on!! We have a method to cook them, we have learned how to choose the good ones and thought we might do a test with everyone at some point. Maybe we'll try them with our kids first, and if they survive, look out!!
