Back in Canada
We are back in Canada and yes we escaped Hotel California. If you know the song, there is one verse that says "You can check in anytime you like but you can never leave". These lyrics came through my head last night in Kingfield Maine, as I swear we were the only people in this hotel with at least 100 rooms. Was it a dive, haunted, or was the lovely older lady at the front desk a serial killer? Why are we the only people staying in this hotel, and what did everyone else know that we didn't?
I'm happy to say we had a good nights sleep, no ghosts and there was even an urn of coffee in the lobby. No innkeeper, but a sign saying that she would be there by 9:00 am, There was a tray to leave your keys if you check out before 9. The tray was empty, yes I'm convinced we were alone in this rather old but large hotel.
So off we went this morning after checking out, up through the back roads of Maine. We took a not much travelled route to a small border crossing. No Duty Free shop here unfortunately.
Our goal was to have lunch in Lac Magantic, Quebec. I'm sure you know the story of the train disaster that happened in July 2013. 47 people died in this terrible accident, many of them at a local downtown bar called Musi Café. We decided to have lunch at their brand new location in the town.
We asked if there was a memorial for the victims of this tragedy, and we were told that a monument was located in front of the downtown church with the names of all of the victims.
Some new buildings have been erected and businesses are moving back to the downtown location, including this café. However the actual site is still quite empty.
After lunch, paying our respects and visiting the memorial, we then headed to Sherbrooke Quebec, our stopping place for this evening. It wasn't planned but it is funny what you can find in a local town or city.
The Promenade De La Gorge de la Riviere Magog, is a very nice walk with amazing photo opportunities. We went there after having dinner.
