Cabot Trail - Sydney

We didn't worry or have to get up early this morning, the plan today was to drive and complete the Cabot Trail and finish off in Sydney.

Sights on this drive were very nice. Although it was a bit foggy to start, it cleared nicely as the day went on.

We were enjoying the drive when our van decided to give us a challenge.  A couple of days ago after golfing, one of the tires decided to start a grinding sound. Steering and brakes seemed good and after a short while the sound stopped and everything seemed normal.  No further problems until today, when it happened again, only a bit worse.  We were in Pleasant Bay with no gas stations around that might be able to help us.

We decided to stop and have a bite to eat and decide if we turn around and go back to Cheticamp, or try to make it to Ingonish. The decision was a lucky bet, and we decided to try for Ingonish, about 70 km away.

The grinding stopped then occurred again for a short time. We now realize that we have a problem  but we're still hoping to make it.  We went all the way to Sydney with no further problems.  I'll have the wheel looked at tomorrow morning, since we are here for a couple of days.

So we get to our bed and breakfast for the next two days. The nice lady who greets us, takes us across the street to "our room". She opens the door and we walk in to a living room as big as ours back home.  I see a full kitchen and I think, which room is ours?  This entire apartment is ours, and there is a full-size washer and dryer in the kitchen as well.  YES laundry time, after 10 days we need to do a bit of washing and this beat doing the laundry in a bathroom sink.

Very, very comfortable.  We met up with a friend of mine, Ron Upson, who I used to bowl with in Mississauga back in the 80's.  Ron and his wife live here in Sydney and I promised to give them a call when we arrived. We planned to spend some time with them tomorrow but Ron insisted on coming by to take us to the boardwalk by the Sydney Harbour.

The first item of interest was a picture at the big fiddle.  This monster fiddle is a tribute to the people and music of Cape Bretton.

Had dinner and then headed back to our home.  We will play some Candlepin bowling tomorrow and then visit with Ron and his wife.  He mentioned something about mussels.  Oh boy it could be interesting.
