Driving to Digby
We left Halifax this morning, taking a shorter drive than originally planned. When Dave set up this trip, the plan was to leave Halifax and drive all around the province, down to Yarmouth and then up to Digby. However after 14 days of travel, we are finding it harder to stay on the roads for longer periods of time.
So we stopped in Lunenburg, home of the Bluenose and Bluenose II and also the Bounty. All of these ships were built here in Lunenburg. You will know the Bounty, because it was the "Black Pearl" ship in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Unfortunately, neither the Bluenose II or the Bounty was in harbour today.
We did take a 35 minute horse and carriage ride through this town which is a UNESCO Heritage site. The homes are quite amazing for their age, some built before confederation (1867).
After touring, we headed back to the van for our ride to Digby cutting through the middle of the province instead of going around as planned. This route saved us about 1.5 hours of travel time.
Digby is famous for scallops, it is known as the scallop capital, So what do Barb and I do? We go out and order Lobster. It was great.
At the restaurant where we ate, they had 3 "pet" lobsters in a tank. They weighed 13 - 16 and 20 pounds and no, you cannot order them for dinner. There was also a rare blue lobster there and I don't think he was for sale either.
So we will spend two days here, resting and playing golf before continuing on our journey back towards home.

YES, you deserve a break from all that driving...no wonder you took a shortcut! Enjoy your golf games with that amazing scenery! And it sounds like you are getting your fill of seafood. "When you see food, ......" :-)
ReplyDeleteHave you seen any Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers yet?
ReplyDeleteNow that is funny that you ask. I'm not sure but we have been in many souvenir shops and many of them have these plastic posters of various dogs, saying things like I love my Rottweiler, Pug, Dashound, Labrador etc. I've been looking, but no Duck Tolling Retrievers. I was going to buy one of these for you guys, but so far no luck.
