Swinging in Cape Breton

Barb and I love to golf together so today was our first of two scheduled golf days. We drove 1 hour south to Dundee Golf club. There is a golf course right next door to where we are staying, but the green fees to play were about $60.00 less in Dundee.  "It's not being cheap, it's called proper money management".

So off we go to play golf, then the plan was to have dinner and get back to Baddeck to join in at a Ceilidh. More about this later.

What a beautiful sight playing at this course. It was hot but the day was excellent here. We didn't score well, but loved the views.

Look at that last picture above, two balls on the green on a par 3.  One shot each. Probably our best hole.

Our game ended around 5:00 pm as we had planned. We decided to have dinner at the resort attached to the golf club. Thinking this way we would be finished around 6 then take the hour and 15 minutes to get back and have 15 minutes to spare for the Ceilidh.

In the dining room there was one couple, Barb and I and shortly after we arrived, a great number of older women came in.  Most of them were wearing red hats to other types of red decorations in their hair.  Some however wore purple.  Maybe they didn't get the memo.

Okay we get our bill, ready to leave and all of the 60 or so ladies in their red hats go out to the balcony of the resort.  I noticed a photographer so I said to Barb, they are going out for a picture.  All of a sudden one lady in purple comes over to our table, hands me her camera, and asks if I can take a picture of the group for her.

But  But  But, (out I go on the balcony)  The photographer is trying to get these women organized for a picture, she turns to me and asks me to move a chair, bring down another chair, move this out of the way etc.  I text Barb, HELP, Get me out of here.

I finally asked one of the ladies about why some are wearing purple.  She tells me that this is the red hat society, and anyone wearing purple has a birthday this month.  (I thought maybe they were the grand poohbahs).

Finally I get the pictures, Barb is now out on the balcony as well, giggling at the situation I'm in.

Okay finally we are free, heading back to Baddeck.  We are about 10 minutes late for the Ceilidh,

which basically means a house party.  It is held in the local parish hall, local musicians come in, tell stories about Cape Bretton Celtic music, and play some songs.  Even a bit of local dancing was happening.

It was a fun evening.  We are now back in our room and I have made Barb stay up tonight to edit this post which is the way we write these blogs. I do the initial write up, add the pictures, then Barb reviews, adds in her pieces, and then you get to see it.  Apparently some of you cannot get a good nights sleep until they read our posts........ at night.  So we are now all caught up, sweet dreams.

Tomorrow, a new location, and new adventure.
