With luck and smart thinking... we survived

Here was our plan today. Visit Hopewell Rocks, then find a beach, sit and relax for the day.  We thought maybe Parlee beach in Shediac but also thought we would likely visit Murray Beach, since it isn't quite as busy and closer to the Confederation Bridge which connects to Prince Edward Island. Barb has never seen this bridge.

So here is what really happened. Hopewell Rocks was our first stop. Magnificent scenery and we timed it at low tide so we were able to walk on the ocean floor.

Barb had to get her feet into the water, a section of the Bay of Fundy, where the tides cause the water to rise up to 4 storeys.

Okay now our day changed a bit, we were both well rested and it was overcast so rather than sit on a beach, we decided to visit Prince Edward Island. It was only about 1 hour and 30 minutes to get there. While passing through Moncton, we noticed many people gathering by the river in a local park. We pulled over to park and wondered if maybe the Tidal Bore was coming in.  This happens when the tide rises.  As the Bay of Fundy fills, the smaller inlets and rivers end up flowing backwards.

We caught this just in time.  Okay now a Timmies coffee and we are heading to the Confederation Bridge.

The scenery along the coast was very nice.

At this point, a bug gets blown in through my drivers window and hits me in the chest.  Not sure what it was, but once while driving back from our cottage a similar thing happened to me, and very soon after a semi conscious bee came crawling up by leg. It made for a very exciting few minutes trying to watch the road, keep an eye on the bee, swatting him off my leg before getting stung and stopping the car.

So this time Barb suggested we should stop to see what it was that came in today. I'm driving on a narrow road, and I check my seat around the crotch area. I don't see or feel anything so I keep on going, hoping all will be well.  A minute or so later I decide to have another drink from my coffee, then I think for a minute. I take the lid off and guess what is swimming in my coffee. I have no idea what luck caused it to hit me and then land through the tiny opening of my coffee cup lid, but I'm so glad that I had the brains to check.

So while PEI was not in our original plans, we visited this province today. We found out that Summerside was having a lobster festival, so that's where we ended up.  Nice little place.

You know what a water park is back home, pools, water slides etc.  Here is the PEI version and watching people trying to navigate this course was very funny.  The kids and adults who were on it, just couldn't stop laughing, it was very slippery and difficult to keep your balance.  Someone should build something like this back home.

Since it was lobster fest, guess what we had.

We told our waitress that we were celebrating our anniversary.  Yes that is right, we have now been married for 1 WEEK!!!.  (Silly newlyweds....)

We were surprised that there was no toll to drive the bridge over to PEI, how nice. Then shocked in trying to drive back to New Brunswick. We saw the toll booths coming, thinking it might be 5 or 6 dollars, Barb got out some change.  Holy %^&U, the toll charge was $46.50!!!  The nice lady in the booth said that is half the price of taking a ferry.

PEI, free to come in, but expensive to leave.  It is a beautiful island and we enjoyed our time there and the entire day.

Tomorrow we drive to Nova Scotia.

    1. We asked the lady at the toll booth if we could turn around and stay on the island. It was 9:30 pm, the toll booth lady laughed but still took our money.
